Mayor Shirley Franklin and the City of Atlanta played a crucial role in the acquision of the King Papers. Urged by former Mayor Andrew Young, Mayor Franklin took the lead in bringing the vast personal collection of Martin Luther King, Jr. home to Atlanta.
