The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department’s Cadet Program is under the umbrella of Mayor Shirley Franklin’s promise. Her promise vowed to support high school seniors as they plan, prepare and take their Next Step in life. Cadets are mentored and trained by Atlanta’s Bravest. The Fire Cadet program allows students to learn fire service skills such as fire suppression, emergency medical assistance, fire & life safety education, social development, communications and leadership skills through participation in both hands on and academic instructional activities.
In order to participate in the cadet program, each candidate shall be required to:
Have an interest in becoming a Firefighter
Have good standings as a high school senior
Attend a City of Atlanta School
Must qualify for early dismissal program
Must have letter of recommendation from his/her school
Maintain drug and alcohol free
Must adhere to department rules and regulations
Must meet the requirements of the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency
