Ms. Ransom was born in New York City and reared in Tampa, Florida. She is a cum laude graduate of Fisk University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Boston University School of Management, and is a certified human resources professional.
Her experience and expertise include management, policy development and analysis, budget preparation and real estate marketing and sales.
She began her career as a Management Analyst with Urban East Consultants, a firm that prepared market feasible studies and provided technical assistance to minority businesses. She was later hired by Lockheed Georgia Company as a Financial Analyst.
Ms. Ransom has enjoyed a progressive career in the public sector, namely the City of Atlanta. She began as a Legislative Analyst and quickly advanced to Senior Policy Analyst with the Atlanta City Council. She later assumed the position of Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer. After demonstrating a high level of competency in public policy and management she was promoted to the Deputy Director of Parks, and soon thereafter to Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor. She has continued to climb the career ladder and now holds the position of Commissioner of the Department of Human Resources.
Ms. Ransom serves on various boards within City government as the Mayor’s representative. The boards include the General Employees, Police and Fire Pension Boards, the Deferred Compensation Board and the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency Board.
In addition to her experience in the public and private sector, Ms. Ransom elected to pursue a personal goal of becoming a licensed real estate broker in the State of Georgia. She was affiliated with a local realtor for several years, but is no longer active.
Since coming to Atlanta, Ms. Ransom has been active in numerous community, civic and professional organizations: Board of Directors for Atlanta Metropolitan Coalition of 100 Black Women, ACHOR Center and Hammonds House Galleries and Resource Center. Member: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Metropolitan Atlanta Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Southwest Atlanta Library, Friends of the Zoo, Atlanta Board of Realtors, and the Bench & Bar Spouses Association.
Ms. Ransom was recipient of the HR Star Conference VIP Award, April 2003, and has been recognized as one of Atlanta’s Top 100 Most Influential People by Atlanta Business Journal, Fall 2001; and one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Georgia by Women Looking Ahead Magazine, November 2001.
Fluent in Spanish, Ms. Ransom’s favorite pastimes are reading, golfing and collecting antique jewelry. Ms. Ransom is married and has two children.
