FY2009 Solid Waste Collection Schedule

The Department of Public Works is pleased to announce that the Office of Solid Waste Services has realigned our existing resources in order to continue providing weekly collection of recyclable materials and yard trimmings.

Effective July 7, 2008, the City of Atlanta’s Office of Solid Waste Services will move the previously outsourced collection of recyclables into the Solid Waste Services operation. This measure will save the City $3 million and improve service delivery.

In order to provide quality service at no additional cost to our customers, it was determined that the City deliver this service through reorganizing existing staff and equipment. There will be an improved quality of the collection service utilizing the City’s staff.

We are also expanding the recycling program to include collection of cardboard.  The new service will allow for cardboard to be picked up as part of the recycling collections, as long as it is broken down and dry.  You may continue using your existing recycle container(s) or a larger container with a lid if clearly labeled “Recycling”.

If you have questions or need additional information please contact the Department of Public Works’ Customer Service Division at 404.330.6333.
