The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club (MSRC) is a program that promotes literacy skills and vocabulary enrichment in children ages birth through eight and their families. The Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is a collaboration between the City of Atlanta, GEEARS (Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students), PNC, the United Way and many great public-private partnerships throughout the city of Atlanta.
The fourth annual Mayor’s Summer Reading Club kicks off on Saturday, June 4th at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta and will feature over 100 events, hosted by our partners throughout the summer. Over 15,000 books will be distributed to children ages birth to 8 across the city of Atlanta.
The theme for this year’s Mayor’s Summer Reading Club is around "resilience and family storytelling". We hope that our work through the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club will encourage children to ask the adults in their lives for personal stories, and inspire adults to share their experiences with children.
This year’s book selections are:
- Mrs. Katz and Tush by Patricia Pollaco, Age Group: 6-8.
- Amari's Blue Ribbon by Rollins Center for Language & Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School, Age Group: 3-5.
- 10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle, Age Group: 0-2.
This year’s Mayor’s Summer Reading Club has many exciting new features including, a family reading celebration event at Georgia State University, photo storytelling throughout the summer, and a Bingo Card game with chances to win tickets to a Georgia State football game!
