Mayor Kasim Reed to Join Federal and State Leaders for MMPT Fast Track Announcement

 WHO:

Mayor Kasim Reed
Congressman Hank Johnson
Congressman John Lewis
Keith Golden, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)
Dana Lemon, Chair Intermodal Committee, State Transportation Board

 WHAT:

Mayor Reed will join Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Hank Johnson and GDOT officials on Friday morning as they announce the Obama Administration’s selection of the proposed Multi-Modal Passenger Terminal project (MMPT) for the Presidential Infrastructure Dashboard Program.

The proposed project will bring together various ground and rail transit services in an area known as the “Gulch” in downtown Atlanta. The MMPT will create a vital hub for transportation and transit in the 120 acres of undeveloped land near the Georgia Dome, CNN Center, and Five Points MARTA Station. When finished, it will be a modern station that will link all forms of transportation: pedestrians, bikes, high-speed rail, light rail, Amtrak, Greyhound, and MARTA.

Led by GDOT, the project’s stakeholders include MARTA, the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, Central Atlanta Progress/Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and the City of Atlanta. The project has other local and regional partners, as well as the Federal Railroad Administration and the Federal Transit Administration.
