City of Atlanta to Open Outdoor Community Pools Memorial Day Weekend
The City of Atlanta will open its community pools for residents and visitors Memorial Day weekend, traditionally the start of the swimming pool season. Beginning on Saturday, May 26, 2012, all pools will open at noon and will be open Sunday and Monday before resuming normal summer hours on Tuesday.
"The City of Atlanta is helping kids beat the heat while being active and enjoying the great outdoors,” said George Dusenbury, Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. “Providing access to pools and spraygrounds is part of Mayor Reed's emphasis on providing positive activities and experiences for our youth."
In addition to the community pools, the City opened its four splash pads on May 1, which will remain open until October 1, 2012. The splash pad locations include D.H. Stanton, Center Hill, Historic Fourth Ward and Perkerson Park. All pools will remain open until August 5, with Adams, Grant, Candler and Powell remaining open through Labor Day. Individual schedules are available at the pools and on the City’s web site.
Daily rates are $4 adults and $2 for children and senior citizens. Children under 5 years of age are free.
