City of Atlanta Responds to Winter Storm Leon
Essential city services will continue; Residents urged to stay off the roads

ATLANTA - The City of Atlanta has mobilized a Joint Operations Center to respond to operational issues throughout the city as a result of the snow and icy conditions forecasted for the metro Atlanta area through late Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Essential city services will continue to operate, although City Hall will close at 1:00 pm on January 28 and re-open at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 29.

With icy road conditions expected until late Wednesday evening, Mayor Reed encourages residents to stay off the roads. If driving is unavoidable, please use extra care.

Department-specific information is below.

Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works will work to ensure priority roadways are clear and passable. To maintain safe driving conditions, the Department of Public Works began pre-treating priority bridges and routes this morning. The City has a total of 30 spreaders, 40 snow plows and 700 tons of sand/gravel mix on hand ready for mobilization. Twenty person crews are working 12-hour rotational shifts through Wednesday evening. The city also has access to emergency on-call contractors as needed.

In conjunction with completing priority routes, crews will canvass designated areas and respond to dispatched calls received from police and other emergency personnel, as well as reports from citizens.

Solid waste pickup services are on schedule for Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Pickup services on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 will be delayed.

To report icy road conditions, please call 404-330-6333.

City staff will provide cots, blankets, water and hot meals at the center. The City strongly encourages all residents who lack adequate shelter or heat to seek assistance this evening.

Department of Watershed Management

If you see water bubbling up through the street, pooling around a meter or running down the street, please call with the nearest address to the source. Repair crews are working 24/7 to resolve issues across the service area, and standby crews will assist. Please anticipate 12-24 hours for critical repairs and 36 hours for non-critical repairs.

All water and sewer appeals hearings scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2014 are postponed. Please call 404-602-4444 for a reschedule date.
