Green Building and Environmental Sustainability is Topic of Developer’s Day
The upcoming Developer’s Day on Friday May 25 at the Emory Conference Center with the City of Atlanta and the Emory of of Sustainability Initiatives will emphasize creating a Greener Atlanta with environmental sustainability and green development.
In April, Mayor Shirley Franklin announced the City’s Greener Atlanta environmental program at the first citywide Earth Day Celebration. Greener Atlanta encompasses sound environmental programs, like green building, that will sustain the city for generations to come.
Developer’s Day panels will be led by City, environmental leaders, and developers. Topics include Best-in-Class Green Development in Atlanta; How to Become a Best-in-Class Green Infrastructure in Atlanta; water conservation, construction and demolition opportunities; an overview of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED); U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) resources; and incentives available in the City of Atlanta.
This event is free. Seating is limited! To RSVP, email cbrackett@atlantada.com or call 404.614.8295. Click here to register.

Martin Luther King Collection Brings the World to Atlanta
More than 72,000 men, women and children from all over the world visited the once-in-a-lifetime exhibit “I Have a Dream: The Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection,” during its five-month run at the Atlanta History Center.
Visitors got a privileged glimpse into the mind of Atlanta’s greatest native son. Exhibit highlights included handwritten drafts of the “I Have a Dream” speech, “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” sermons and his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. “I Have A Dream” closed on May 13.
Atlanta’s legacy of non-violent social change has historically led global leaders to look to the city for inspiration and guidance to solve civil strife. Earlier this month, a City of Atlanta delegation greeted President Mary McAleese, Republic of Ireland, at the Atlanta History Center to view the King Collection. President McAleese shared with City officials that Atlanta’s social change strategy was the perfect model to quell violence during critical times in Ireland’s violent religious struggles.
Essay contests and other curriculum-based projects connected to the King Collection allowed teaches and students to think outside the box. Over 14,500 Georgia students visited the exhibit and more than 1,800 third, fourth, and fifth graders participated in the AT&T My Dream Georgia Statewide Essay Contest, inspired by the exhibition.
The 10,000 piece King Collection is owned by King's alma mater, Morehouse College. It will be housed at the Robert W. Woodruff Library for scholarly review.
