The City of Atlanta plans to move forward with two applications for annexation into the City. The communities are Cascade Glen and Horseshoe Community.
The applications include signatures of residents and property owners expressing their desire to join the City of Atlanta.
The City will move forward on the annexation applications for Cascade Glen and the Horseshoe Community. The City Clerk has verified the signatures on the Cascade Glen and Horseshoe Community applications. The Department of Planning and Community Development will ensure that the applications comply with state annexation requirements.
In Cascade Glen, more than 68% of registered voters and property owners representing 70% of the land area were calculated and 66% of registered voters in the Horseshoe Community with 67% of land area have been verified. Both communities exceeded the requirement that one-eight of the annexed land border the City of Atlanta.
City of Atlanta Deputy Chief of Staff, Joe Morris, III said, “We are pleased to have received two complete petitions for annexation from unincorporated South Fulton. We look forward to working with the Cascade Glen and Horseshoe Community to complete the annexation process. We will continue to be engaged with the other areas in unincorporated South Fulton as they make their decisions about annexation into the City of Atlanta.”
Legislation authorizing the annexation, adopting their zoning status and incorporating the areas into the City’s Community Development Plan was introduced in the City Council meeting on August 21. The City Council’s Finance/Executive Committee has scheduled a work session to discuss the annexation applications at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2006. A public hearing on the proposed annexations will be held Thursday, September 14 at 6:00 pm in City Council Chambers.
At the request of the petitioners in Midwest Cascade and Sandtown, the City will not act on their applications at this time.
