City of Atlanta’s First-Ever “Arms Around Atlanta- Earth Day Celebration

Mayor Shirley Franklin is looking to Atlanta to join her on an all-important environmental initiative. On April 21-22, 2007, the City of Atlanta, Keep Atlanta Beautiful and BeltLine Partnership will host the first ever “Arms Around Atlanta-Earth Day Celebration,” a community-based project to help clean up and refresh selected right of ways around neighborhoods and parks located on and close to Atlanta’s BeltLine.

During this two-day celebration, community volunteers will be hard at work on their goal of removing 10,000 illegally dumped or used tires, cleaning up 6,000 bags of litter and collecting more than 40,000 pounds of electronic waste. The tires and electronic waste collected will be recycled and used to furnish local parks with benches, jogging tracks and other items.

Refreshing selected right of ways on or close to Atlanta’s BeltLine, is just one of many great things taking place during this two-day celebration. Grant Park will be the eco-center of most activities. There will be something for everyone from an entertaining ensemble of trumpets, Taiwanese dance troupe, art, and video contests to food, fun and prizes. Special activities include:
