English Avenue Coalition Partners & Public Safety Committee Hosts Protecting Our Residents Reclaiming Our Neighborhood: Hands On Atlanta Day Community Event

With presenting sponsor GE Energy, Hands On Atlanta Day has grown to be one of the largest days of volunteerism in the country, mobilizing more than 10,000 volunteers in service projects throughout metro-Atlanta. Hands On Atlanta Day volunteers will renovate public schools, take part in environmental projects, make much needed repairs to seniors’ homes, and so much more.

The English Avenue’s Hands on Atlanta Day project will consist of closing open and vacant properties located along popular walking routes taken by students attending Kennedy Middle School and Washington High School, clearing the sidewalks and cutting back overgrown lots at least 4 feet from the side walk for the same aforementioned corridors, as well as creating a community garden.

The projects will be implemented with the help of Air Tran Airways, WSB TV, Mayor’s Office of Weed and Seed, Atlanta Police Department – Weed and Seed/Zone 1, Raising Expectations, Community Improvement Association, ECO-Action, Morehouse College – Bonner Office of Community Service, Communities In Schools, Kennedy Middle School, Fulton County Superior Court's Drug Court.
