The Atlanta Workforce Development Agency serves 1,200 students through its Step Up program funded by the Georgia Department of Labor which pumps $2 million into the program for summer jobs.
There was an apparent issue with the transfer of funds from the payroll company (ADP) to the bank that services the debit cards used to pay the students in the program. On Friday, the City of Atlanta received confirmation that the funds had been transferred and students would be able to use their cards no later than midnight on Friday. The funds are not available yet and appears will not be available until Monday morning. Every student who worked will receive their pay as soon as ADP makes the necessary corrections.
Mayor Shirley Franklin apologies for the inconvenience and assures every student that they will be paid as expected. “Since there was a confirmation that the funds were received, it is not a financial availability issue, while I can’t imagine what the problem is, I have every confidence it will be corrected.”
