In my five years as mayor, I have advocated openness and transparency in government. That includes any open records and other inquiries of public documents that are in my possession as the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Atlanta.
I strongly believe that if any information exists in the public domain that is relative to my official capacity as mayor then it belongs to the people.
Since assuming office in 2002, my public calendar has been posted on the city web site at www.atlantaga.gov and want to provide these documents in that spirit of openness.
With the varied and rapidly changing technological communication tools from blogs and websites to online radio and satellite talk shows to dial in telephone polls, it seems appropriate to make the information available through the City’s communication tools, like news releases and the website as well. Any open records requests responses that I have answered will be available on the City’s website for 10-business days and then available from the City Clerk’s Office through the regular process for duplication of public documents.
My efforts to make the documents available now are based on my commitment to the open and transparent management of that government.
