In 2008, the City of Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department (AFR) experienced its lowest number of fire related fatalities in more than a decade. Fire officials contribute this monumental accomplishment to the men and women of Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department in addition to, educational programs and other programs such as Operation ASAP (Atlanta Smoke Alarm Program). The most recent reports show the following: 2004 a total of ten, 2005 a total of eleven, 2006 a total of eight, 2007 a total of eight, and 2008 a total of six.
