During the New Year's weekend, December 30, 2005 – January 2, 2006 Atlanta will host a number of events that will draw hundreds of thousands of people to the City. During this period the Atlanta Police Department is anticipating a high volume of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and strongly encourages the use of MARTA. For a printable copy (pdf), click here.

- Sugar Bowl Parade at 7:00 p.m.
- Concert at Philips Arena at 9:00 p.m.
- Peach Drop festivities at Underground 6:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.
- Sunday, January 1, 2006
- Atlanta Falcons football (Georgia Dome) at 1:00 p.m.
- Concert at Philips Arena at 5:00 p.m.
- Monday, January 2, 2006
- Atlanta Thrashers Hockey at Philips Arena at 3:00 p.m.
- Sugar Bowl Football Game (Georgia Dome) at 8:30 p.m.
Due to these events the motoring public should anticipate the likelihood of heavy traffic downtown generally, and in the area of Underground Atlanta, the Georgia Dome, the Georgia World Congress Center and Philips Arena. The Atlanta Police Department will deploy additional officers for increased security and traffic control in the affected areas and throughout retail and shopping districts.
The use of MARTA is strongly recommended during the New Years weekend. Citizens are reminded that if they must drive, to carpool and to be sure to thoroughly research their route and to leave early. The public is also urged not to park where “Emergency No Parking” signs are posted or in other prohibited areas as illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
