City Attorney Elizabeth Chandler Accepts A New Position in Atlanta

Elizabeth Chandler, City of Atlanta Attorney has announced her resignation, effective May 12th.  Chandler joined the Franklin Administration over two-and a half years ago from Mirant Corporation.

Chandler leads a team of attorneys who oversee and manage the city and Council’s day-to-day legal matters. Under her leadership several key accomplishments include, leading the effort to revise the state’s Tax Allocation District (TAD) law which allowed the Beltline project to move forward, continued compliance with the water consent decree, defeating efforts to permit firearms in the airport, and streamlining the law department to maximize efficiency through cost and personnel reductions.

Mayor Franklin said, “Beth has brought her wealth of knowledge from the private sector to government and has been an invaluable member of our team. As a smart and dedicated advisor, I have no doubt she will continue those skills in this new and exciting opportunity.”

“I have enjoyed the unwavering commitment to compliance and integrity lead by the Mayor and Council and I am grateful for the professional and personal chance to serve the people of Atlanta,” said Chandler.

Chandler’s new position is Vice President and General Counsel for Asbury Automotive Group, Inc.

Deputy City Attorney Roger Bhandari will serve as interim City Attorney for a period not to exceed 90 days (per the City Code).  The Mayor will interview candidates for the permanent position which is subject to City Council for confirmation.
