The Fulton County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opens today, October 1, 2009 at 8 a.m. The Center is located at the Fulton County Government Center located at 141 Pryor Street, Atlanta Georgia 30303 on the first floor. The Center’s hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday. The DRC includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Small Business Administration, and other major agencies providing emergency assistance to citizens affected by the flooding in Fulton County.
Free parking will be available for applicants seeking assistance at the Underground Atlanta Parking Decks located at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. They will take a ticket dispatched from the gate activation station at the entrance to either parking deck. FEMA will distribute the vouchers for the parking charges that are to be given to the cashiers at the exit gate to either lot.
Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) are operated by the State of Georgia and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be open across Georgia for those affected earlier this week by severe storms and flooding.
People who suffered losses can get person-to-person assistance at the centers from specialists skilled in many disaster-related subjects. Individual assistance is available and can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
Disaster officials ask that before visiting the centers, people should first apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers are staffed seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Help in all languages is available.
