On Wednesday, November 29, 2006, Mayor Franklin received the Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics’ Ethics Advocate Award, which recognizes an individual whose exceptional efforts are consistent with the institute's mission of promoting ethics in business and society.
The Ethics Advocate Award was presented to Mayor Franklin recognizing her perseverance and commitment to reforming ethics in city government, objectives she expressed in her "Ethics Reform in City Government" presentation on March 27, 2002, at an Executive Breakfast Forum of the Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics.
“When I was elected, I was determined to raise the bar on ethics in city government, to reclaim the public trust and confidence in city government and to create an environment of openness and integrity,” said Mayor Franklin. “I am honored to be recognized for what I believe is simply working hard to do the right thing.”
Since 2003, four people have been recognized. Previous honorees were The Honorable Robert Benham, former chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court; Mr. Ray Anderson, chairman of Interface, the world's largest commercial carpet manufacturer; and Mr. Bill Bolling, founder of Atlanta Community Food Bank.
