The City of Atlanta has a preliminary assessment of the recent flood damages and officials are continuing to assess municipal facilities, roads and bridges. Atlanta Fire Rescue (Atlanta Fire Department) conducted the external damage assessment of public, private and commercial properties that was submitted to GEMA, who submits it to the federal government. Atlanta Fire Rescue attached report highlights residential properties because of the immediate needs of residents whose homes were damaged by creeks that flooded in those communities.
The City’s preliminary numbers are that 474 homes were impacted by the flooding and approximately 1,900 residents are seeking some level of federal assistance. The damage to municipal facilities included City recreation centers, RM Clayton Wastewater Treatment Plant, bridges, roads and other structures have also been reported to Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The City of Atlanta will continue to update flood damages in order to request federal assistance.
