City of Atlanta Congratulates Mayor’s Youth Program Participant and Summer Intern Courtrevez McTier

The City of Atlanta would like to congratulate Courtrevez McTier on his selection as a member of the NCAA Division I Independent Baseball All-Academic Team.  As a Savannah State University student and a member of the Mayor’s Youth Program, Courtrevez has participated in the summer internship program for the last two years.  As a freshman, he was accepted as a summer intern at an Atlanta law firm and this summer, he is interning in the Mayor’s Office.

Baseball has always been Courtrevez’s passion, but he admits that his first year playing at a college level was more difficult than he expected.  He was determined not to let the new environment defeat him, so he spent an entire summer improving mentally and physically.  His discipline and training earned him a 3.7 grade point average, as well as a starting role on the baseball team.

Courtrevez’s would like to play professional baseball, but is also extremely interested in forensic science, teaching and the military.

“Tre is a dynamic person with great talent on and off the baseball field,” said Mayor Shirley Franklin.  “The City of Atlanta congratulates him on his NCAA All-Academic recognition and wishes him many more successes.”

The Mayor’s Youth Program is an initiative launched in 2005 by Mayor Shirley Franklin and the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency to provide individualized planning for all High School seniors in the Atlanta Public School System. Students receive intensive counseling, summer internships and financial assistance to help with any unmet needs in pursuing college or the workforce.  Atlanta’s Annual Summer Internship Program has proactively addressed the rising rate of student drop outs by helping Atlanta’s youth build self-esteem, cultivate work ethic and foster community pride. Since 2005, this outreach program has placed over 4,000 students in summer internships and paid training.
