Mayor Shirley Franklin and United Way of Metro Atlanta President Mark O’Connell Announce FEMA Housing Funds for Evacuees

WHAT:

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved grants to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) to reimburse eligible costs related to housing Hurricane Katrina evacuees. 

 

The City of Atlanta is earmarked to receive $5,778,000 in reimbursements from GEMA for work they have done toward sheltering and housing evacuees.  The funds will help an estimated 1,500 families currently living in the City of Atlanta.

 

Based on FEMA registrations, more than 46,000 households have relocated to Georgia from the impact areas of Louisiana and Mississippi.
