Music in the Park (MITP) is a program created by jazz saxophonist Kebbi Williams which utilizes public spaces to promote social interaction and provide youth exposure to world music through performance. Music in the Park has an eight year track record of highly successful multicultural events which bring together professional musicians and local youth for a free annual performance in Atlanta's Historic West End. As part of ELEVATE 2022, Music in the Park will once again activate several streets of the Historic West End for a free city-wide open streets event.
The 2022 plan involves connecting Peeples St from Gallery 992 located at Ralph David Abernathy Blvd south to Rose Circle Park. The MITP event will transform these 4-city neighborhood blocks of historic West End into a contiguous stretch of street/porch venues during the afternoon, and a parade route for a student Marching Band celebration, and culminating in a drumline competition and performance event finale at the stage at Rose Circle Park.
