What is the abortion law and how will it affect the City of Atlanta?
Abortion is legal in Atlanta and throughout the State of Georgia, typically up to six weeks.
On July 20, 2022, GA’s 11th Circuit Court ruled to allow H.B. 481, which passed the Georgia General Assembly in 2019, to take effect immediately. H.B. 481 makes it illegal to obtain an abortion after the fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which is typically around six weeks. The only exception is in the case of rape, incest and medical threat to the life of the pregnant person. Read more about H.B. 48.
