Mayor Andre Dickens’ People-First Budget Unanimously Approved by City Council

ATLANTA—Mayor Andre Dickens’ fiscal year 2023 budget – his first since taking office – was unanimously approved by City Council today. The Dickens Administration is making key investments and maintaining a fiscally responsible approach, producing a balanced budget that further contributes to the City reserves and does not sell off City assets. The fiscal year 2023 budget covers the period July 2022 through June 2023.

“My people-first budget invests in the people who deliver for the residents of Atlanta,” said Mayor Dickens. “The strength of our City comes from the dedication of the police officers, firefighters, frontline workers and all other employees who serve our residents and visitors.

“Thank you to the City Council, the Chief Financial Officer, my full Cabinet, staff members and all involved in the process for producing a thoughtful, deliberate budget we can all be proud of – a budget that moves Atlanta forward.”

The fiscal year 2023 general fund budget is the largest in the City’s history. Among the highlights of the Mayor’s budget:

• The first Cost of Living Adjustment for City employees in five years;
• Well-deserved raises for firefighters a year ahead of schedule and funding to hire additional police officers.
• Expanding operations for At-Promise Centers;
• Investments for maintenance and upgrades for aging public safety facilities;
• Additional investments for Pre-Arrest Diversion efforts;
• More than $65 million total for housing and homelessness, representing one of the most significant investments in housing in the City’s history;
• Technology infrastructure upgrades;
• Increases in arts and culture funding; and
• Substantial investments in parks and greenspaces.

Separate from the budget, the Mayor has also allocated American Rescue Plan funds to:

• Provide bonuses to Police personnel at all ranks;
• Expand premium pay for the City’s frontline workers; and
• Support youth initiatives for the summer and throughout the year.

Earlier this year, Mayor Dickens also led the City’s successful effort for the approval of the Moving Atlanta Forward infrastructure bond and T-SPLOST package, which will deliver $750 million in needed investments across Atlanta.
