The City of Atlanta and partners will launch the USDA Summer Food Service Program, a program that ensures low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.
During the school year, 50 percent of children in Atlanta rely on free or reduced-price meals. During the summer months, one in four children in the City of Atlanta and Georgia are considered food insecure and will miss meals.
Through the program, the City of Atlanta’s community partners will feed approximately 6,000 children. USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals nationally – 14 million more than in 2014.
