Motor Vehicle Public Vending Program

NOTE: The City of Atlanta public vending motor vehicle permit (i.e. ice cream truck permit) is separate and distinct from the city’s public property food truck permit and private property vending permit. STEP 1: Gather required items   

The following items are required before applying for a City of Atlanta motor vehicle public vending permit: 

• Georgia Department of Revenue Sales and Use Tax ID number. Visit the Georgia Department of Revenue’s website to learn more.  

• Food license from the Georgia Department of Agriculture or a letter from the department stating that a food license is not required. To learn more, visit the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s website.  

STEP 2: Submit City of Atlanta motor vehicle public vending permit application 

Submit a motor vehicle public vending permit application via ATLCORE, the city’s business licensing and regulatory permitting online portal. The portal can be accessed by clicking here. A valid email address is required to register for an account with ATLCORE, submit a new or renewal application or check the status of an application. In your application, you will need to provide: 

• Applicant’s name, address and email  

• Social Security number 

• Georgia Department of Revenue Sales and Use Tax ID number 

• A copy of the applicant’s state issued picture ID 

• A description of the items to be sold or offered for sale  

• A food license from the Georgia Department of Agriculture or a letter from the department stating that a food license is not required. To learn more, visit the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s website.  

STEP 3: Submit required fees   

Following the submission and review for completeness of your motor vehicle public vending permit application via ATLCORE, the Office of Revenue will issue you an invoice for how to submit payment for required fees 

• The annual permit application fee is $75.  

• The annual criminal background check fee is $50 

• The one-time fee for fingerprinting is $20 

The rules and guidelines for operating a motor vehicle for vending include, but are not limited to: 

• Motor vehicle vendors may not stop or stand to do business for more than 30 minutes. 

• Operation hours for vendors is from 7:00am to 12:00am. 

• No vehicle using sound equipment shall operate such equipment before 9:00am or after 9:00pm daily - between the hours of 9:30am and 12:00 noon on Sundays - within one block of a church between 7:00am and 9:00pm on Sundays - within 600 feet of any public school between 7:30am and 3:30pm on days which schools are in session.  

• Before making any sale, motor vehicle vendors must park the vehicle at the right curb at least 8 feet from any other vehicle that may be parked on the street and not less than 100 feet from any intersecting street. When the vending vehicle stops, all sound equipment or other devices used to notify customers of the presence of the vendor shall be stopped and shall not be resumed until the vehicle is again put in motion.  

• Amplified sound must comply with City of Atlanta Noise Ordinance.  

• All vendors shall display their valid vending permit and licenses in the approved vehicle. 

Trash 

All motor vehicle vendors engaged in the sale of pre-packaged food, non-alcoholic pre-packaged beverages, prepared food, and/or prepared non-alcoholic beverages shall affix to their motor vehicle, or a receptacle for trash, which shall be maintained and emptied regularly, and which shall be marked as being for trash. Motor vehicle vendors are responsible for the removal of trash within a 25-foot radius surrounding their vehicle.
