Senior Citizen Discounts

Homestead Exemption

  • Seniors over 65 with an annual income of less than $30,000 can also apply to have their property assessment frozen as long as they live in the property. Bearing in mind that property prices in Fulton are increasing rapidly, this may be a major benefit.
  • Any owner-occupied home in Fulton County is eligible for a $2,000 reduction in the assessed value of the property.

No Income Exemptions

Several options are available for senior citizens in Fulton County, the most accessible of which are depedent on your annual household income not exceeding certain thresholds.

  • If you meet the eligibility criteria, exemptions of up to $50,000 off the assessed value of your property may be available.

Income-Based Exemptions

  • With an income cap of $87,000, eligible seniors can receive different levels of exemptions based on the home value.

Recycling Exemption Fee

The City of Atlanta offers a Solid Waste Recycling Exemption for eligible Seniors.

Criteria are as follows: 

  • All citizens aged 65 or older before January 1, 2024. 
  • Have income less than $25,760.00 of income for calendar year 2023.

Backyard Garbage and Recycling Services

Solid Waste Services offers backyard service to senior residents who are 70 years of age or older, live alone and the person is physically incapable of placing the garbage at the curb. If the person is not capable of placing garbage at the curb, then they must present a licensed physicians certified statement stating such person is physically incapable of placing the garbage at the curb.

Please Note: If City of Atlanta trucks cannot enter the backyard for collection, the customer cannot get backyard service.

To apply: submit proof of age and physician's certified statement by fax at 404-546-9073 or email the DPW Customer Engagement Team at dpwcs@atlantaga.gov

If backyard service is requested and the person requesting the service does not meet the age or physical condition criteria, then the citizen must pay $1,233.69 to receive this service; City Code Section 130 - 37

Hardship Assistance 

Hardship assistance is offered through the Fulton County Tax Delinquent Commission for to eligible seniors who have trouble paying their bill. 

Criteria are as follows:

  • All citizens aged 65 or older before January 1, 2024.
  • Must already have a Homestead Exemption
