Level Up
Level Up: Minecraft Build Challenge
Purpose: On September 5th, Atlanta Public Schools (APS) launched a city-wide Minecraft build challenge for students to construct their own virtual representation of the city. The goal of the initiative is three-fold: we want to increase student engagement and strengthen their bond to Atlanta, to show students what civic engagement looks like specifically through the use of technology, and to solicit their opinions and unique perspectives on local problems.
As the students engage with their virtual worlds and interact with experts brought in by APS, the question they are being asked to consider is: “How can we envision a connected, equitable and sustainable future that moves Atlanta forward without leaving anyone behind? “
While teachers plan interdisciplinary tasks connected to the Georgia Standards, APS students will be building virtual proposals in Minecraft: Education that encapsulate their vision for Atlanta’s future. These proposals will then be submitted for consideration by a panel of judges.
