City to Issue Shared Ride Service Request for Qualifications at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport
ATLANTA –On Oct. 26, the City of Atlanta will begin the process for selecting a qualified company to provide shared ride shuttle services to passengers traveling between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Atlanta’s Central Business District (Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead). The new selection process will incorporate recommendations from Ricondo and Associates Inc., a nationally recognized airport consulting firm retained by the Department of Aviation to propose improvements and best practices for the airport’s ground shuttle transportation services.
In August, Chief Procurement Officer Adam Smith announced his decision to cancel the shared ride shuttle services Request for Proposals (RFP). The Department of Procurement will conduct a two-step bid process that will include pre-qualification of providers through a Request for Qualification (RFQ) followed by a sealed bid to qualified providers.
The solicitation will reflect improvements and enhancements to the airport’s ground transportation systems, include service to the now-operational Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal and maintain the airport’s best-in-class service. Additionally, the solicitation will incorporate the consultant’s recommendations for the airport’s ground transportation processes and procedures.
Ricondo conducted a benchmark survey study that compared Hartsfield-Jackson’s ground transportation operations with that of five airports across the nation of similar size. The intent of the study was to identify best practices in the industry which could be incorporated at Hartsfield-Jackson. Based on the study’s findings, the solicitation will stipulate that the winning bidder cannot simultaneously provide curbside management services and shuttle services to Atlanta’s Central Business District.
