Our Georgia State University (GSU) Capstone interns have done it again!

You all did an amazing job and finished the 2021 fall semester strong. During your time with the Department of Atlanta Information Management (AIM), you successfully contributed to 10 IT projects, including Atlanta Smart City, Atlanta Beltline, VoIP, the AIM SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis, and more! Your innovative contributions to the projects will have a significant impact on the way we do business and provide services to our customers.

Thank you all for the hard work you have done during this semester!

Amber Colbert My name is Amber Colbert. I attended Alabama State University and received my bachelor’s degree in health information management. While at GSU pursuing my master’s degree in computer information systems with a concentration in cybersecurity, I interned with AIM. My goal is to become a cloud computing engineer. In my internship with the City of Atlanta, I gained hands-on experience with projects that leverage technology. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and watching my favorite TV shows.

I was given the opportunity to complete an internship with the City of Atlanta to gain experience before graduating in the fall. I worked alongside Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Brittaney Carter and Meloni Boatswain who were very helpful and attentive throughout the experience. During my internship, I helped with smart city projects and learned a lot. I’m appreciative of this opportunity and the skills I’ve obtained that will make a difference as I continue my career search.

Cameron Cooley My name is Cameron Cooley and I have a love for knowledge and technology. As a senior at GSU, I studied computer information systems. Some of my interests include cybersecurity, network engineering, and cloud computing. Outside of technology, I enjoy amusement parks, racing cars, solving problems and traveling. I aspire to work within a full-time information technology (IT) role that impacts and provides value to the lives of others.

AIM is an all-around amazing place to intern. Throughout my internship, I collaborated with Chief Information Officer (CIO) Jason Sankey and Benita Joseph on AIM’s SWOT analysis initiative. I learned how to build data visuals within Microsoft Excel and PowerBI. This experience challenged my usual thinking and pushed me to think outside of the box. I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with CIO Sankey, Benita, Chloe Broom, Eduardo Torrejon, Kia Hampton, and everyone at AIM. I am also thankful to Kimberlyn Nelson for supervising the internship program and for such an incredible, fulfilling experience overall. I truly appreciate the opportunity to intern with AIM and am excited for what the future holds!

Chassidy Houston My name is Chassidy Houston and I am from Marietta, Georgia. I attended GSU during my undergraduate career, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer information systems and pursued my master's degree with a concentration in cybersecurity. Post-graduation, I plan to pursue a career as a cybersecurity analyst. A few of my hobbies include volunteering at my local food bank, working out, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends. I genuinely enjoyed my time interning at the City of Atlanta and all that it attributes to my personal growth and work experience. UPDATE: I have happily accepted a position with AIM as a systems engineer.

Interning with AIM was nothing short of fantastic. I’ve had the opportunity to perform analyses on mobile operating systems and security updates, research potential security applications and expand my knowledge on mobile device management platforms. This internship has contributed significantly to my personal growth. I've learned how to pivot and deal with unexpected circumstances. One of the most substantial parts of interning with AIM was having the opportunity to speak with various business leaders and receive great insight into their career paths and helpful advice. Although all good things come to an end, I look forward to collaborating with AIM in some capacity in the near future.

Cordele Mincey, III My name is Cordele Mincey, III and I am from Decatur, Georgia. I attended GSU and graduated with a degree in computer information systems with a specialization in data analytics. Post-graduation, I look forward to a career in data analytics, preferably in Atlanta. I currently find enjoyment in teaching eight to 15-year-old kids how to program their own video games at Code Nights. The City of Atlanta has been nothing short of an excellent experience for me. The leadership I’ve experienced has more closely resembled mentorship. I look forward to the future of AIM's Center of Excellence.

I had the opportunity to work with the AIM Web development team in which I coded the “What the Interns are Saying” section of this site with HTML. I've had previous experience in HTML, CSS and Javascript but the guidance and leadership I've received from the Department of Atlanta Information Management (AIM) feels award-winning. This internship has contributed significantly to my personal growth tremendously. My team has helped me in more ways than they may know, and I feel as though this internship has strengthened my skills for what's to come in my career.

Karen Halim My name is Karen Halim and I studied computer information system and data analytics at GSU. I currently work as a software support specialist. On my free time, I enjoy hiking and catching the sunrise and sunset!

During my internship for the City of Atlanta. This internship polished my PowerBI and auditing skills while strengthening my leadership and communication skills. Ms. Nelson took the time to create leadership sessions for us, which was one of my favorite things about this internship. Ms. Baugh also took the time to meet with us to touch base on the projects and ask how we were doing. Mr. Cole took the time to provide his insights on project management, which correlates to what I strive to do in my career. I would like to formally thank everyone on the City of Atlanta AIM team for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to work alongside them.

Richie Nguyen I'm Richie Nguyen and graduate student at GSU. I would like to be a business analyst in the near future. In my spare time, I like to be active in sports like tennis and volleyball.

Here at the City of Atlanta, I had the opportunity to work with the deputy chief information officer (DCIO), budget analyzer, and training manager. They were beyond beneficial in helping me achieve my goals for this internship. I learned many new technical skills as well as made improvements in my soft skills. I'm grateful they took the time out of their busy schedules to help all of us interns transition from a school environment to a working environment.

Rushit Patel My name is Rushit Patel. I graduated in December 2021 from Georgia State Universiry where I studies Data Analytics. I hope to work as an analyst and further pursue my MBA. My hobbies include soccer, hiking, cycling and traveling.

I had the opportunity to complete an internship with the City of Atlanta by working closely with the Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO). I worked alongside Ms. Kimberlyn, Ms. Errin, Ms. Martisse and Ms. Shauntria who all played a huge role in making this internship full of experience and skill learning. I didn’t have previous experience working with PowerBi, but the internship prompted me to learn this new skill and use it to build a budget dashboard for the DCIO. Overall, it was a great learning experience and I truly appreciate the opportunity.

Valeria Contreras I'm Valeria Contreras, a first-generation college student who graduated in December 2021. I pursued a degree in computer information systems with a focus in data analytics. My plan for the future is to work as a data analyst and gain enough experience to create a startup that provides optimal solutions for small businesses. I have a passion for helping people gain a clearer understanding of things through data analytics, which is why I’ve chosen this path.

The opportunity to intern with the City of Atlanta has helped me develop more than any other prospect I've experienced. I worked closely with Ms. Benita Joseph and Chief Information Officer (CIO) Jason Sankey in the office of the CIO, who truly cared about my growth and role within the organization. I want to thank them and give special thanks to Ms. Kimberlyn Nelson. It is very evident to me how much Ms. Kimberlyn cares about the growth of the interns. She held weekly meetings with the intention to further develop the leadership potential she saw in all of us. I have nothing but great memories of this organization.

Vandyck Buabeng My name is Vandyck Buabeng. I attended GSU with a concentration in computer information systems. My interest in information systems began my freshman year when I enrolled in an information technology (IT) course, which led me to pursue a career in that field. In my free time, I enjoy playing and watching basketball and soccer.

I had the opportunity to work with the AIM Web development team which exposed me to HTML and CSS. Prior to the program, I had no experience in Web development and I’m thankful for each team member for dedicating their time to guide me throughout the program. Overall, it was a great learning experience in terms of technical and soft skills, and I truly appreciate everyone that helped me on this journey.
