Preservation at Work
October 21st-26th
Join us in celebrating the 5th Annual Historic Preservation Week!
The Department of City Planning celebrates the rich history of Atlanta and seek to preserve it with our Future Places Project. The Future Places Project is an effort to ensure that Atlanta is well-positioned to champion and enact a wide range of historic preservation-related initiatives for years to come. In doing so, it is important to highlight the heritage of historic people, places and events.
Historic Preservation Week affords the opportunity to share knowledge, increase understanding and allow open dialogue for Atlantans to learn more about us and our city.
Historic Preservation Week made its debut during the pandemic in October 2020 with a kickoff of our Future Places Project, a virtual tour of South View Cemetery, a technical workshop on what makes a building historic, and a preservation talk on racial equity in historic preservation.
Each year we strive to offer engaging, educational, and stimulating content in a variety of formats including the offering of a Parks Tour in 2022 and 2023. These tours shared the history that can be found in many of Atlanta’s Parks, while participants also exchanged their own stories and memories in these public spaces.
The theme this year is “Preservation at Work”.
We look forward to your presence at one or all this year’s planned activities!
