The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $550,000 via two grants to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department for facilities, training and equipment enhancements. The grants, a 2012 Assistance to the Fire Fighter Grant and a 2012 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant, will help the Department address three key areas—facilities renovation, training enhancements and community risk reduction—identified in its Strategic Plan.
“Atlanta Fire Rescue is thrilled with the confidence that FEMA has shown in the Department through the awarding of these grants,” said Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran. “The Department has sought grant opportunities diligently over the last three years to augment our annual operating budgets, while implementing Mayor Reed’s identified AFRD-related public safety priorities.”
