Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran has been nominated for the Leadership Character Award, an annual honor given by the Turknett Leadership Group, an Atlanta company specializing in executive coaching, leadership assessment, executive team development and executive selection. Chief Cochran is one of four nominees in the “CEO/President/Management Partner – Large Company” category. Nominees are 50 people in the categories “CEO/President/Managing Partner – Small/Medium Company,” “Executive/Manager,” “Education,” “Non-Profit” and “Inspiritor.”
Chief Cochran was nominated by Charlotte King of Snowden & King Marketing Communications, who has worked closely with him on the Department’s Emergency Preparedness Institute. “Chief Cochran devotes his time in concrete ways to make the fire profession transformative,” Ms. King wrote in her letter nominating him for the award. “He has mentored other municipal leaders, he looks for opportunities to showcase his youngest recruits, and he is in constant demand

Mayor Kasim Reed will join Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran and Atlanta Fire Rescue Department personnel at 10 am, Tuesday, August 13, in the Turner Field Green Lot to spotlight the $10 million worth of apparatus the Department has acquired with the administration’s support. The apparatus includes nine new engines, three ladder trucks and three battalion command vehicles. The engines feature KME Severe Service cab and chassis; a 1,500-gallon-per-minute fire pump; a 500-gallon water tank and 60-gallon foam tank; and a 450 HP engine with Allison automatic transmission. They will be housed at Stations 1, 6, 16, 17, 28, 24, 32, 35 and 40.
The ladder trucks feature a KME Severe Service cab and chassis; 101-foot aerial ladder; 223 feet of ground ladders; and a 500 HP engine with Allison automatic transmission. They will be housed at Stations 1, 14 and 16.
The battalion command vehicles are Ford F250 models with command modules. They are going to Division 1, Battalion 4 and Battalion 6.
