Faith-based Development Initiative
Atlanta's Faith Community Supplies First 2000 units toward 20,000 administration goal
The Mayor’s Faith-based Development Initiative was launched to build a pipeline of community-based organizations that can fully leverage existing development incentives and other resources to produce permanently affordable housing units across Atlanta. This initiative should spur the creation of at least 2000 units of affordable housing over the next eight years as part of the administration's 20,000 unit goal.
The Office of Housing and Community Development in partnership with Atlanta's other housing agencies will help facilitate the connection of resources to organizations through the following support:
1. Assess what stage in the development process each organization is in via the FBDI Quick Start Guide
2. Share information on the zoning, entitlements, and market conditions for a property
3. Convene 1-2 visioning and planning sessions with organizations seeking development
4. Convene technical workshops to educate the public about housing development best practices
5. Connect organizations with 1 to 1 peer mentoring and coaching via a network of local organizations that have successfully completed a development project
6. Connect each organization with subject matter experts and other professionals that can support their development process
7. Connect each organization with pre-development capital and training opportunities via Invest Atlanta, Atlanta Housing, other City of Atlanta offices, and other public and nonprofit partners
8. Collect data on the ongoing challenges facing local affordable housing developers
